National Indigenous Peoples Day is a day of recognizing, celebrating and appreciating the cultures and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit, and Metis Indigenous peoples of Cananda.

This date was chosen to coincide with the summer solstice and the beginning of a season of berry-picking, fishing, pow-wows, and gatherings.
